I'm very impressed with this debut novel. It took me two or three times of starting the book before I finally got into it. But once I got into it, I couldn't wait to find out what happened.
The prose was beyond reproach, however I have to agree with RustyMetalChick's review regarding character development and some plot holes. I think that had the protagonist's character been fleshed out more, perhaps three-dimensionalized (to borrow again from RustyMetalChick and maybe even coin a new term:), then I may have cared more about her and might have had an easier time getting past the first couple of chapters initially.
I also agree that some of the events (pun intended) in the plot could also have benefited from some revising and fleshing out as well.
But all said, it was a thoroughly enjoyable read. Being a Northern Californian--as well as something of a geek--I couldn't help but love the geographical references in addition to the techie stuff. I'd like to see more from this promising author!

The premise was excellent. It is an easy read, but I found the characters to be very two dimensional and there were holes in the plot. An extremely good novel by an aspiring writer, but it needed revisions. I would buy his next novel. Told you I would review, Mac.
Being that the internet has become such a big part of our lives, the story in this book is easy to relate to. You don't have to possess an IT degree to understand it, though. Very well written. I am looking forward to a sequel!
Really enjoyed reading this book, but in a way it was really scary as I can see the world going that way and I fear for my grandchildren. The book was great Don and I look forward to the next one I can see that you really have a talent for writing. ps. loved the cover.
This was a terrific first novel! Anyone who is tethered to their smart phone, or uses predictive applications from Google, etc., will get a shudder from this original and creative venture into another type of apocalypse, brought upon by "people trading critical thought for the speed of immediate self-validation." I loved the devolution of Social sites from a web presence to physical encampments. It was a fun, easy, and thought-provoking read that kept me turning pages until the end.

It might have benefited from further character and plot development, but I found this story thoroughly enjoyable and look forward to the next from Don Lively!
In this novel we follow the protagonist as she tries to navigate her way through a strange new landscape that has been destroyed by an app gone rogue. Don Lively's scenes of the post-apocalyptic world were totally convincing and he had me believing that maybe this could really happen. I stayed up way too late on a couple of nights because I just couldn't put this book down.
Very enjoyable read...suspenseful. Mr. Lively did a wonderful job putting together "an event" that would normally be outside my field of understanding, (technology-laden) and made it completely understandable. His character development allowed me to drop myself right into the story as if I were there and personally was acquainted with them. This is not a genre I usually follow, but am intrigued after reading Mr. Lively's account.
This is a terrific, fast paced look at today's culture and the possibilities of the future. At first I thought it was going to be quite similar to The Road and The Hunger Games but I enjoyed it more because of the plot development based on today's social media mania. Anyone who is interested in the current state of politics, the environment and the social impact of technology will love this book! It is an addictive read with a compelling flow of beautifully constructed descriptions, technical (but not too technical) explanations, and disturbingly plausible situations. Just look around at the lightning fast changes throughout the world fueled by social media and this story may not be just science fiction. Don Lively has hit a home run! I hope there will be more to come.
