Falling Into Bed with a Duke Hellions of Havisham Lorraine Heath 9780062391018 Books

"He'd though he wanted a tall woman. He'd been mistaken. He wanted her."

FINAL DECISION: Witty and filled with incredible longing. I appreciate how Heath manages to fill her books with imperfect characters who exist in a word where each is longing for love and imperfect perfection.

THE STORY: MIss MInerva Dodger has had enough after six seasons fending off fortune hunters. Only willing to marry for love, Minerva has given up. Instead she intends to visit a notorious club where women meet lovers in order that she might have one perfect night where someone desires her. Nicholson Lambert, Duke of Ashebury arrives at the club looking for imperfect perfection to add to his collection. When he spies the disguised Minerva, he finds a woman who intrigues him especially because she insists on remaining anonymous. When Ashe realizes that he cannot stop thinking of the mysterous woman, he is determined to track her down.

OPINION: This book is a continual surprise. Heath places her characters in situations that I've read before but then twists and turns the story in new and unexpected ways. Minerva who is strong willed, smart, clever and stubborn is also vulnerable because she truly believes that no one can want her for herself. Meeting Ashe while she is masked gives Minerva an opportunity to find her own self-confidence. Her fear is that if Ashe discovered her true identity that his interest would dissolve. What she doesn't know is that Ashe quickly suspects her identity and continues her pursuit. There is a complication to their courtship that almost derails their happiness. I appreciated that Heath solves that dilemma with unique flair.

A Heath novel is often filled with lyrical prose that well expresses the longing and completeness of love. I always feel that I have read something beautiful in reading the words that her characters use to describe their emotions. The characters surrender themselves totally to love and to one another by the end and that brings joy.

Heath also does a good job of giving her characters emotional, physical and societal challenges that must be overcome. Her characters are thus given a complexity that makes their triumph at the end especially unique.

WORTH MENTIONING: I was incredibly pleased with the numerous appearances by characters from the connected series.

CONNECTED BOOKS: FALLING INTO BED WITH A DUKE is the first book in the Hellions of Havisham series. This series is about a group of men who were orphaned as boys and went to live with their mad guardian (who also had a son). The boys ran wild -- thus are known as hellions. This series is connected with both the Scoundrels of St. James (especially BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND DESIRE which is the story of Minerva's parents) and the Scandalous Gentlemen of St. James (especially WHEN THE DUKE WAS WICKED which is the story of MInerva's half brother). This book can be read as a stanalone, but the others are so good, I recommend reading them all.

STAR RATING: I give this book 4.5 stars.

Falling Into Bed with a Duke Hellions of Havisham Lorraine Heath 9780062391018 Books Reviews

I wasn't sure at times if I'd be able to finish this book, because while I simply adored Ashe who despite all the pain of loss and the way he grew up he was a fairly well adjusted and interesting and charming man..... I d loved to have had him... Minerva on the other hand ,sure hadn't been treated fairly or even kindly at times by the fops and idiots she had chasing after at one point or the other but otherwise had a wonderful loving family and life... A life where maybe not always appreciated by her peers had loving friends and family, plenty of money and everything else, soo she nearly drove me crazy with I'd call being a brave/coward and a smart/idiot ... While I felt it was very brave and smart to take control of her life and choices and give something like Nightingales a try ( I doubt I'd be soo brave) she wasn't very good at truly owning her choices and going after what she truly wanted after a while I wanted to either retch or smack her going on and and on about fortune Hunter's and all her numerous short comings.... Right she's wealthy ,has more freedom most women, pretty ( even if most are blind to it) intelligent ( great head for business) loving family and friends ( most of a few 100 years later can't claim 1/2 of that) and yet she spends more time in pity parties feeling sorry for herself and doubting everything, looking for something to doubt even than actually fighting for what she wants... I just wish either she'd had to fight more for him or they'd both been fighting for each other than Ashe having to do it all...
But even all that said,I had a great time and I definitely look forward to Edwards story, thou I don't like how it starts w/even more loss....
The group of grown men known as "the Hellions" each have a book about their "misadventures"

This was the third book I read and it was about the Duke of Ashebury. Every book I have read has been a fantastic read. I cannot decide which is my favorite so far.

I really loved these characters a lot. Ashebury, of course, is so appealing you cannot help yourself. He is definitely a self admitted rogue but you forgive him. His past is dark, his childhood was wild and "odd" and definitely has left it's Mark.

The heroine, Minerva, is not the norm for historical romances. I would love to find a friend with her personality. Her dowry is ginormous but it can't buy her love, just fortune hunters. She dreams of and will only accept a man that can love her just as she is....just fortune Hunter after fortune Hunter and this is her sixth season.

If you are a reader of this genre, you can't go wrong with this book. I really could not put this book down. I hated to see it end ......but it was perfect after all....it is an historical romance.

But, WOW.....just WOW. What a read and what a ride!!!!!

Reality just cannot beat these romances. Thank goodness this writer is prolific! I have already picked the next Hellion!
Lorraine Heath is one of my go to authors. This book however is not one of her best to me.

I found both hero and heroine a little lack luster. The plot while a new one to me seemed contrived and a little dull, and predictable. Almost the entire book seemed to be their thoughts or their interactions in which nothing much but sex happened.

I give it an okay and look forward to her next book for I have surely not given up on this great author and as you can see most people do not agree with me. So give it a try.
