The Scott Medal is awarded for bravery and there evolved lesser degrees of prize, but at first the bravest policeman in Ireland would win the medal. Inevitably a couple of awards were made posthumously as thieves killed the officers trying to arrest them.
The curator of the Garda Museum gave his co-operation with this book and records go back to the start of the force.
I found this a fascinating account of individual and group bravery and dedication, and it will be invaluable as a research tool.
